Honey whole wheat bread is a tender, slightly sweet loaf you can make easily in a bread machine — perfect for sandwiches, toast, and homemade paninis. This reliable loaf balances whole-wheat nutrition with a touch of honey for flavor and crust color.
Prep Time: 5 mins • Cook Time: 3 hrs • Total Time: 3 hrs 5 mins • Servings: 10 • Yield: 1 loaf
Ingredients
- 1 1/8 cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups bread flour
- 1/3 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Directions
Step 1
Place ingredients into the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine: warm water, honey, oil, whole wheat flour, bread flour, salt, and yeast.
Step 2
Select the Whole Wheat cycle and the light crust setting (if available). Start the machine and allow it to complete the cycle (about 3 hours).
Step 3
When the bake cycle finishes, remove the loaf from the pan and cool on a wire rack at least 30 minutes before slicing to allow steam to escape and the crumb to set.
Cook’s Note
For a slightly sweeter loaf, add an extra tablespoon of honey or replace part of the bread flour with oat flour (up to ¼ cup). If your machine tends to undermix whole grain dough, briefly knead by hand for 2 minutes before starting the cycle.
How to Store
Wrap cooled bread tightly in plastic or place in a bread box for 2–3 days at room temperature. For longer storage, slice and freeze in a resealable bag up to 3 months — toast slices directly from frozen.
